Yes, the dog meat trade still exists. Many people are familiar with Yulin Fest; the dog meat lychee festival which takes place during summer solstice June 21st through July1st. But dog meat is consumed all year. There are no animal welfare laws in China, so animals are not protected. It is felt that brutally abusing dogs before death makes the meat more tender.
