Miyamoto Musashi was Japan's greatest ronin or masterless samurai. He defeated 62 opponents in duels and famously wielded two blades in combat. Musashi created his own budokan or school. He designed a fighting system called Niten-Ich' or two heavens in one. The ronin fought with the shogun in some of the period's greatest battles including the Siege of Osaka and the Battle of Sekigahara.
