Tom Weir was born in Springburn, Glasgow, on 29 December 1914. He was an accomplished mountaineer climbing peaks in Nepal and Norway. At home, he became a much-loved writer and broadcaster who shared his enthusiasm for Scotland’s great outdoors. He is perhaps best-known for his series Weir’s Way 🏔️ We recently acquired one of Tom’s trademark bobble hats. This was made by Tom’s wife Rhona Weir, who knitted all of his bunnets 🧶 He and Rhona lived most their lives nearby the banks of Loch Lomond.

It arrived there from Springburn on 4th May 1987 and it hung over the empty Clyde, suspended for just a few weeks, waiting for a ship that never came.
