In Home Alone (1990), the infamous photo of Buzz’s “girlfriend” that Kevin mocks is actually a boy dressed up to look like a girl. The filmmakers did this on purpose to avoid embarrassing a real girl by having her appearance insulted on screen. Director Chris Columbus cast the son of the film’s art director, dressed him in makeup and a wig, and used the photo as a visual joke. This behind-the-scenes choice has since become one of the movie’s most well-known trivia facts.
