The old legend moose returns to his home lake in late fall, to nourish himself for the long winter ahead. It is the lake where his momma raised him as baby, taught him to swim and eat, and kept safe from bears that patrol the nearby forest. As he ambles from the forest to the water, I am stunned at the sheer size, as if the animal is of another time, another place. He is surreal. Time moves so fast in the mountains. And now he is the biggest animal in this valley, by far. A giant. But I remember

The old legend moose feeds on aquatic vegetation at sunset. Although you may think I was close, this was filmed a hundred yards down the lakeshore.
