Simple yet really spectacular! Pour concentrated sulfuric acid into a glass with sugar. Because of its dehydrating and oxidizing ability, the sugar starts to break down and become charred. The mixture heats up, and water steam and carbon dioxide are released. This leads to the products of the breakdown of sugar being pushed out of the glass.
