The Khelo India programme has been introduced to revive the sports culture in India at the grass-root level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation.

In 36 States and Union Territories across 679 districts, there are more than 1000 Khelo India centres and in 31 States and Union Territories, around 32 Khelo India State Centres of Excellence have been notified. The revamped Khelo India Scheme was notified vide the Gazette of India dated 14.10.2017, envisages establishment of State level Khelo India Centres (SLKICs) as one of the 12 verticals of Khelo India to maximize the utilization of Sports infrastructure set up by the respective State/UTs.
