Smaller than some of the monoblock amplifiers reviewed in these pages, its slim profile and 44 pounds belie its power capacity. Bryston rates this amplifier at 250Wpc continuous into 8 ohms, 400Wpc into 4 ohms, and 800W, bridged, into 8 ohms.

Jul 1, 2020 · Bryston 4B rear panel. The original Pro 3, which became the 3B, produced 100Wpc into 8 ohms, and the original 4B put out 200Wpc (back then, few amplifiers that output more than 200Wpc into 8 ohms sounded good).

Current delivery: 16A continuous, 48A peak, per channel. Frequency response: 1Hz–100kHz, ±3dB for 1W output.

The 4B drove a wide variety of loudspeakers, including dynamics (Snell A/IIIs, Bs, and Es), electrostatics (Quad ESL-63/USA Monitors), minimonitors (Sonus Faber Minima), and subwoofers (Quad/Gradient SW-63s). At different times, it was run single-ended and balanced, and used both as the upper-range and subwoofer amplifier in bi-amplified systems.

One of the most durable and outstanding power amps ever built, the Bryston 4B is known for its reliability and rock-solid sound. This unit was purchased used in 2015, and has been housed in a clean, non-smoking studio since.

Oct 11, 2009 · If you listen to rock and currently use a Sansui AU-517 (loved that amp), I think you will like the bryston. Never heard the 4b specifically, but the later 4b-st and lived with a 3b-st for years. Excellent build quality, bomb proof reliability, and punchy clean sound.

Now rated at 300 watts per channel into 8 ohms, (and upwards of 500 into 4 ohms), this true dual-mono amplifier is powerful enough for practically any speaker, yet it's priced to remain within reach. The degree of clarity, power, nuance, and outright truthfulness of this amp is stunning.
