Any "advantage" of the anime people mention will just be things that are a difference in medium, not what the anime actually does better like BGM, voice acting or animation. Read the manga in full, then watch whatever you wanted to see animated animated, then watch whatever filler/OVA/Movie you wanna see.

Anime just got to about chapter 934, and the manga is on chapter 974 (I think). That's only 40 chapters. Which is a little over 20 episodes. And although they're putting out a new episode every week, Oda isnt putting out a new chapter every week. They are dangerously close to fully catching up with the manga.
