Nissan said in its announcement that a failed engine can lead to a “loss of motive power" and increase the risk of a crash.

Nissan is recalling more than 480,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada because of manufacturing defects that could cause the engine to lose power while in use.In a recall notice posted with the the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,

The recall covers certain Nissan Rogues and Altimas, as well as a number of Infiniti QX50s and Infiniti QX55s.
