Connecticut officials say the pilot of a small plane that was about to crash managed to safely land it in Long Island Sound and call 911 to report his location before he and another person were rescued.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the single-engine plane that made a water landing in Long Island Sound over the weekend experienced engine issues.

Two people were rescued after a small plane crashed into Long Island Sound off the coast of Connecticut, the U.S. Coast Guard says.
