The first 12-team version of the College Football Playoff has reached the national championship game and it will be Notre Dame against heavily favored Ohio State. The tantalizing matchup comes after some wondered if the CFP selection committee got it right.

Day’s Buckeyes had eventual national champion Georgia on tilt in the playoffs a couple of years ago, but the Ohio State lost a heartbreaker. Day’s record vs. Michigan is rough for Buckeyes fans to digest, but Ohio State’s leader is 60 minutes away from potentially adding a national championship to his resume.

Ohio State has a loaded roaster full of top-end talent. Despite some offensive line concerns, the Buckeyes are a much healthier team entering this contest than the Irish are. It makes perfect sense that they are a decent favorite.

According to ESPN's Bill Connelly, the SP+ computer model predicts more points in the latest edition. The Buckeyes are projected to win the contest with a 6.9-point edge, per the model's results (27.6-21.7).

Notre Dame won't need to look too far for bulletin board material before it's matchup with Ohio State in the College Football Playoff National Championship game next week. Oddsmakers in Las Vegas have already given the Fighting Irish more than enough.
