Fired Los Angeles fire chief Kristin Crowley is suing the city for her ouster, claiming Mayor Karen Bass launched a smear campaign against her after the deadly wildfires earlier this year.

Former Chief Kristin Crowley of the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) is suing Democratic Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles over her termination, CBS Los Angeles reported Wednesday. Bass fired Crowley as fire chief in February following the deadly Palisades fires that left at least 27 people dead and destroyed thousands of buildings.

A brush fire north of Los Angeles is spreading quickly and forcing evacuations in the area. The Canyon Fire ignited Thursday at around 1:30 p.m.

According to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials, Jerry W. Guzman worked out of the Azusa station and served for more than 20 years.
