The National Weather Service in Des Moines issued a winter storm warning early Tuesday morning, set to go into effect at midnight (Wednesday morning) and last through the day Wednesday. This is an upgrade from the previous winter storm watch.

Snowfall totals in the Des Moines metro were expected to be between 5-9" ahead of the first significant storm of the season.
