New Texas curriculum aims to engage first-grade students with a lesson on Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s historic estate known for its French neoclassical architecture and as a symbol of his genius.

Schools would not be required to use the state materials, but districts that do so would receive up to $60 per student to purchase and print them.

We certainly can’t risk letting students read their textbooks. Who knows what questionable ideas they might find?
