Local Big Lots stores to close at end of month
The company that bought Big Lots is planning to close hundreds of the chain's stores, including three in Mississippi. Here's what we know so far.
As Big Lots' bankruptcy process continues, more than 460 locations are likely closing because their leases are on list of those for sale.
The company helping Big Lots through its bankruptcy process is selling the leases of six stores across Tennessee. In September, Big Lots announced it was filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy and it would close over 300 stores in addition to the originally planned 35 to 40 store closures.
All remaining New York Big Lots store leases are up for sale as the company navigates bankruptcy. Gordon Brothers Retail Partners began listing over 460 locations nationwide, including 49 in New York, with offers due by Jan. 24. This signals likely closures, though some stores may transition to new ownership.
The states with the most Big Lots locations up for sale on the list are Texas (72), New York (49) and Florida (44).
While not much information is available, the company's plans to sell many store leases may provide some insight.
