Air-traffic control radar appears to have measured a US Army helicopter flying at a lower altitude than an American Airlines Group Inc. jet before the two collided near Washington, DC, on Wednesday, National Transportation Safety Board officials said.

On January 29, 2025, a tragic mid-air collision between a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines regional jet claimed the lives of 67 people, leaving the nation in mourning and prompting investigations into the incident.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Andrew Loyd Eaves was one of the Army personnel in the Black Hawk helicopter that collided with American Airlines 5342 Wednesday.
