Warner Bros horror Weapons held the UK-Ireland box office lead for a second weekend; as Sony romantic comedy Materialists opened in third place. Weapons added £1.6m on its second session – a 39% drop that was below than its 33% overall international drop, but still brought it to £6.3m, a strong result for an 18-rated title.
“Nobody 2” will likely be no match for “Weapons,” a twisty horror film from Warner Bros. and New Line that opened to a smashing $43.5 million last weekend. It’s continued to be a box office winner throughout the week and should top charts with $20 million to $22 million in its sophomore outing.
New Line's horror pic and Disney's family comedy delivered a double win for the late summer box office, as well as a victory for two challenged genres.
