Some minor geomagnetic storms are possible because of a cooler, less dense spot on the sun’s surface, forecasters said.

The northern lights — also called aurora borealis — could be visible in Alaska, Washington, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, Maine, northern parts of Idaho, Wyoming, Iowa, New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.

According to the NOAA, 24 states, including Alaska, Montana and North Dakota, might have a chance to see the northern lights June 1 and June 2.
