The BBC has confirmed that Doctor Who will return sooner than expected on 12 April, marking Ncuti Gatwa ’s second season as the Time Lord. The news had already been revealed in a surprise advert that aired during the BBC’s coverage of the U20s Six Nations Rugby match between England and Scotland on Friday (21 February).

A promo video aired during a rugby game said the new season would be out this April 12, and, thanks to the official announcement from Disney and the BBC, we now know that date to be correct. Yep, Doctor Who season 2 is arriving this April 12.

Season two will officially launch on Saturday 12 April at 8am on BBC iPlayer and later that day on BBC One in the UK. At the same time, those outside of the UK can watch the Doctor and Belinda on their epic adventures on Disney+ where available.

Disney Branded Television and the BBC have jointly announced that season two of “ Doctor Who ” will premiere Saturday, April 12 (12:00 a.m. PDT / 3:00 a.m. EDT) on Disney+, where available, and exclusively on the BBC and BBC iPlayer in the UK. New episodes from the eight-part season will premiere weekly.

Alongside the release date announcement, it's been confirmed that Alan Cumming will return to the Whoniverse, this time as cartoon character Mr Ring-a-Ding, who we saw clawing his way out of a cinema screen in the season 15 trailer.

Doctor Who fans can get ready for the second season to launch on Disney+ on April 12. The show will be available at 12 a.m. PT and 3 a.m. ET. Viewers in the UK can catch it on BBC or stream it on BBC iPlayer the same day.
