As part of the expanded US strikes on Yemen, and amid increased Houthi attacks on Israel, the Americans will reportedly hit more missile-related targets.

The latest round of strikes occurred as the United States and its ally Israel struggle to halt a campaign of regional assaults by Yemen’s Houthi militants.

Israel’s military says it intercepted a missile fired toward the country by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The attack set off sirens late Monday in central areas of Israel, including Tel Aviv.

Israel is signaling a wider campaign against Houthi militants in Yemen, a mountainous and impoverished country more than 1,000 miles from Israeli territory.

The US THAAD system is under fire after another reported failure to intercept Houthi missiles in Israel. Houthi official Nasruddin Amer reportedly mocked US and Israeli defences, claiming no system can counter hypersonic missiles.

A missile launched from Yemen by Houthi rebels crossed into Israeli territory, prompting air raid sirens in Jerusalem and central Israel. The missile was successfully intercepted by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) with fragments falling near Modiin.
