Fare evasion in the New York City transit system is on the decline, although 45% of all city bus riders still aren’t paying for their trips, according to new MTA figures.
The MTA estimates 44% of bus riders and 10% of subway riders skipped the fare during the final three months of 2024.
At least five riders were spotted by The Post vaulting past the sharp metal barriers at the 59th Street/Lexington Avenue station over the course of just one hour Friday morning.
The MTA is trying to crack down on fare evasion in the NYC subway system by using "spikes" on the turnstile handrails.
