The locally-famous Power family opened Coffee Tree in 1965 as a sort of fast-food sibling to its Nut Tree restaurant, which sat on the north side of Interstate 80.
But they were in competition with fast-food chains, and the Coffee Tree closed in 2005. “First was the fruit stand,” saic Casebolt, tracing the development of the Nut Tree.
