YouTube is reportedly planning some big changes to its TV app, including adding more paid-for streaming services to its homepage.
Netflix is truly the knight in shining armour of the streaming service landscape. After getting the chop from NBC in 2021, supernatural mystery thriller Manifest was left in limbo after three seasons, but just like it did for Lucifer in 2018, Netflix played the role of resurrector.
YouTube plans to redesign its TV app and add more content from third-party streamers. According to The Information, the update could arrive in the next few months and make YouTube’s homepage look more like Netflix.
That's according to The Information, which says that a new YouTube app for Smart TVs is coming in the "next few months". It will look "more like Netflix, Disney+" and will include the option to add other streaming platforms as channels, much like Amazon Prime Video.

YouTube currently lets you explore shows and movies from services like Paramount Plus, Max, and Crunchyroll as part of the Primetime Channels feature it rolled out in 2022. Similar to the setup on Amazon’s Prime Video, you can select and subscribe to these third-party services through YouTube, all while the platform gets a cut of the payment.
YouTube has been trending toward becoming more of a streaming service for a few years now, though it hasn't been seamless. A new report from The Information claims that the video platform has attempted to integrate third-party content since at least 2022.
