A 38-year-old man called 911 to report that he shot and killed his 80-year-old father, California sheriff’s officials reported. As California continues to battle devastating wildfires, the Kentucky Division of Forestry is reminding residents of the importance of wildfire preparedness.

A Northern Kentucky native is home after helping fight the California wildfires. When John Preston's team got the call, help was needed; he was on his way. "I've never in my life seen devastation like that, from Iraq to everywhere I've been," Preston said.

Some Kentuckians may be heading to California after offering to help with the wildfires. Gov. Andy Beshear said on Thursday that California put out a call for help, and the Kentucky Division of Forestry answered.
