Kyle Nelson has had long stretches where he's been very effective for the Diamondbacks. But health and recovery from surgery are question marks and could lead to another short season. He is projected to only pitch 32 innings as it is, and he is an unlikely candidate to reach or exceed his previous career high of 56 innings.

Settles with Arizona

A handful of Arizona Diamondbacks, including Pavin Smith, have reportedly settled on contracts with the team and avoided arbitration.

The Diamondbacks avoided arbitration with all nine of their eligible players, including right-hander Zac Gallen and first baseman Josh Naylor.

That includes Kevin Ginkel, Kyle Nelson, Geraldo Perdomo, A.J. Puk, Joe Mantiply, Ryan Thompson, and Pavin Smith.
