Tornado threat as Met Office issues red weather warnings for 100mph winds - Storm Eowyn, the first named storm of 2025, is set to bring strong winds of up to 100mph over the next few days

Lidl stores across the country will not open on Friday during the hours that the red weather warning issued by the Met Office remains in place. In a statement a Lidl spokesperson said:" Due to Storm Éowyn, all Lidl Ireland / Lidl Northern Ireland stores will close on Friday 24 January during any red weather warning that is in place.

An amber warning doesn't mean just one thing, the Met Office have a chart that show the circumstances that could dictate a warning being sent out. Known as the warning matrix, it helps break down the severity of a weather event further than the 3 colour warnings.
