There’s good news at the MLK weekend box office for films like Sony’s new buddy comedy “One of Them Days” as well as more milestones for Christmas holdovers “Mufasa” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” but this holiday period is proving to be a weak one for theaters.

Mufasa: The Lion King continues to roar at the box office, where it’s in a close race with One of Them Days — the first female-led Black comedy since Girls Trip — for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday crown as Wolf Man gets gouged.

The Lion King, meanwhile, is looking to recapture the weekend box office crown a week after it was dethroned by Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr.’s Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. Per Deadline, Mufasa: The Lion King is projected to earn $12 million through Sunday and $16 million through the four-day MLK holiday weekend.

After everyone ran to the movies over the holidays, they’re doing something else this weekend with Disney’s Mufasa in its fifth weekend looking to upset the MLK 4-day frame with an estimated $16M take.
