The Fruit Ridge Avenue bridge over I-96 is set to be demolished on Friday before being rebuilt by the end of the year.

Construction crews will replace the Fruit Ridge Avenue bridge over I-96 as well as widen portions of the road.

Both directions of the highway are expected to be closed from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday, the city of Walker said.

Beginning around 7 a.m. Monday, March 31, the Fruit Ridge Avenue bridge over I-96 will be closed. Traffic will be detoured to 3 Mile and 4 Mile roads via the I-96/Walker Avenue interchange.

The closure begins March 31 and ends in December. It will include Fruit Ridge Avenue from 3 Mile Road to Northridge Drive.
