AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Saturday promised to quickly sign off on a new, Republican-leaning congressional voting map gerrymandered to help the GOP maintain its slim majority in Congress.

Texas lawmakers approved the redistricting plan early Saturday, inflaming a battle among states as governors from both parties pledge to redraw maps.

Redrawn congressional maps that have been the center of controversy in Texas passed the Senate early Saturday and now head to Gov. Abbott to sign.
