The Indian stock market witnessed a strong rally ahead of the Union Budget 2025 announcement, with the BSE Sensex surging nearly 800 points to hit a day's high of 77,537.12, while the Nifty gained almost 300 points.

Sensex and Nifty have enjoyed a three-day winning streak, even as FIIs continue to unwind long positions. However, despite the recent gains, Nifty remains 11 percent below its record high from September 27.

BSE Sensex and Nifty50, the Indian equity benchmark indices, resumed their downtrend on Thursday. While BSE Sensex was below 76,500, Nifty50 was near 23,150.

Bharti Airtel, Power Grid, Bajaj Finance, Nestle India and M&M were the top gainers on the BSE Sensex, while ITC Hotels, Bajaj Finserv, Adani Ports and Zomato were among the top losers

In the broader market, both the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices rose by almost 1 percent, outperforming the benchmarks, which opened flat after the U.S. Federal Reserve held rates steady and gave no indication of future cuts.
