Yoon and his legal team have repeatedly invoked far-right claims, without evidence, of a conspiracy between South Korea’s left-wing opposition and Pyongyang as they defend the president from criminal charges of insurrection and try to convince the constitutional court to reinstate him.

Rallies erupted across Seoul on the first weekend following President Yoon Suk-yeol’s indictment with detention, with demonstrators either demanding his removal from office or voicing opposition to his impeachment. Supporters of Yoon were divided into two factions, with one group rallying in Gwanghwamun and the other in Yeouido.
