The sale of the Boston Celtics has been finalized. Private equity mogul Bill Chisholm has taken control of the NBA’s most-decorated franchise from a group led by Wyc Grousbeck that had owned them for more than two decades.

William Chisholm is the Celtics' new governor, with Aditya Mittal and Wyc Grousbeck named alternate governors.

The sale of the Boston Celtics will be finalized Thursday, and there will be some changes at the top of the chain, SportsCenter 5 has learned.

Chisholm, a Massachusetts native and lifelong Celtics fan, reached a tentative agreement in March to purchase the franchise for $6.1 billion, which set a record at the time as the largest amount ever paid for a North American sports team. That number has since been exceeded by the sale of the Lakers for $10 billion.

The $6.1 billion sale of the Boston Celtics to William Chisholm is expected to close within the next two weeks, Sportico reported Thursday.
