Poland hopes Washington will take action to show solidarity with Warsaw after Russia's drone incursion this week, Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski told Reuters on Friday, despite President Donald Trump having played the incident down.

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — France said it’s deploying fighter jets to Poland and Britain announced fresh sanctions on Russia’s oil revenues and war machine Friday as European countries took steps to deter Moscow’s aggression after an incursion by Russian drones into Polish territory.

Responding to President Trump, Poland's leader said, "we would also wish that the drone attack on Poland was a mistake. But it wasn't."

Russian drones shot down over Poland were reportedly headed for Rzeszow Airport, a key logistics hub for aid to Ukraine, German media outlets Spiegel and Welt reported on Sept. 11.

Kyiv fears that Europe will react to Russia’s drone incursion into Poland by keeping its air defenses to itself instead of helping embattled Ukraine.
