New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Will Borgen on a five-year contract extension. Borgen, 28, has registered three points (1G-2A) in 17 games for the Rangers since being acquired from the Seattle Kraken on Dec.

The defenseman, who was traded to the Rangers in December for Kaapo Kakko, signed a five-year, $20.5 million contract extension on Saturday.

Will Borgen signed a five-year, $20.5 million contract with the New York Rangers on Saturday. It has an average annual value of $4.1 million and begins next season. The 28-year-old defenseman is in the final season of a two-year contract he signed with the Seattle Kraken on July 7, 2023, and could have been a restricted free agent after the season.

The Rangers traded for Borgen from the Seattle Kraken on Dec. 18 in a package that included Kaapo Kakko. Borgen has served a big role since arriving in New York as Peter Laviolett
