The Perseid meteor shower is set to peak next week throughout Aug. 12-13, allowing stargazers to see up to 100 shooting stars per hour.

As many as 100 "shooting stars" per hour can be seen during the peak of the Perseids on Aug. 12 and 13, but a bright full moon means evasive action is required.

The Perseids are one of the most visually spectacular meteor showers of the year and are known for spawning impressive fireballs that light up the night sky.
