Kolkata: Junior Doctors front have announced to call off their strike regarding the RG Kar College rape and murder incident on September 19. The doctors will return to their work from1. Emergency services will resume but OPD services will remain suspended.

Junior doctors in Bengal have decided to end their large-scale protest over the rape and murder of a fellow doctor at a hospital in Kolkata. They announced that they will return to work on Saturday, although with a condition: they will not participate in OPD services or attend elective operations.

The doctors will end their sit-in demonstration before Swasthya Bhawan, the headquarters of the state health department in Salt Lake, which was ongoing for the 10th day on Thursday.

Debashish Haldar, a prominent figure in West Bengal’s junior doctors’ protest, said they ‘remain hopeful for a formal written directive acknowledging our demands’, and will continue their cease work

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had earlier transferred Kolkata Police chief Vineet Goyal and appointed Manoj Kumar Verma in his place, while also removing the directors of medical education and health services.

The junior doctors called off their protest after the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government accepted most of the demands of the medics.
