Health Canada has approved an updated Novavax COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the variants of the virus currently circulating. The move comes just after the agency approved Moderna's updated mRNA COVID vaccine earlier this week.

Pfizer says Canada has selected its "Abrysvo" RSV vaccine for use in adults 60 and over for the upcoming virus season. "Abrysvo" is also approved for use in pregnant people to provide protection to infants.

Health Canada authorized Novavax’s updated COVID-19 vaccine that protects against currently circulating variants of the virus on Thursday. The protein-based vaccine, called Nuvaxovid, targets the JN.1 subvariant of Omicron, replacing the previous version which targeted the XBB.1.5 Omicron subvariant, the agency said in an online update.
