President Trump’s auto tariffs won’t just make buying a car more expensive. They would make simply owning a car more expensive, too. Levies on imported vehicles stand at 25%, and tariffs of the same size are planned for auto parts in early May.

The anxiety is palpable in Toyota City, the “Detroit of Japan,” as it braces for the impact of the Trump administration’s 25 percent tariff on foreign-made cars.

Anderson Economic Group says the impact of auto tariffs on U.S. consumers could be $30 billion in the full first year.
