These measures come after Bluesky struggled to keep a check on impersonator accounts amid a surge in user growth last year.

Bluesky has delegated part of the verification responsibility to a group of selected “trusted verifiers.” These trusted entities, such as media organisations, can now issue verification checkmarks directly through the app.

“Bluesky will proactively verify authentic and notable accounts and display a blue check next to their names. Additionally, through our Trusted Verifiers feature, select independent organizations can verify accounts directly. Bluesky will review these verifications as well to ensure authenticity,” the company wrote.
