Lewis & Clark State Historic Site celebrates the role that the Illinois Country played in the Lewis & Clark Expedition. Located in Hartford, IL near the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, the site tells the Lewis & Clark story with a focus on the training and preparation that took place at Camp River Dubois from December 1803 - May 1804 before the journey started. This Illinois Department of Natural Resources State Historic Site has an Interpretive Center with multiple galleries, theater, and replica keelboat display. Outside, the site offers a replica of Camp River Dubois, replica settler's cabin, 3 picnic pavilions, and a viewing area of the river confluence that provides beautiful views and fishing opportunities.
