tomatoe planting around walnut trees - HelpfulGardener.com
Roots do not extend out from trees evenly so you could get lucky with a tomato plant fairly near to a small tree, but if roots are there they will poison tomatoes et al..

My Dying Crape Myrtle - HelpfulGardener.com
About 3 days after planting it, I accidentally drained a toddler pool that probably held about 30 gallons of water. The water didn't drain ON the planted area, but all the water definitely seeped into the soil and went through the soil where the tree is. (it's downhill)

Sickly walnut tree - HelpfulGardener.com
Hi there, caring for trees is new for me and I just moved to a new home in May with walnut trees in the planting strip out front. There are (were) two trees. One was obviously dead for quite some time and we have since cut it down. The second tree looked sickly when we moved in and we purchased fertilizer stakes recommended for nut trees and pounded them into the ground in the drip zone. The ...

What is the best planting mix? - Page 1The garden at sea level is in a flood zone and will stay flooded for days. I think I might do more research on hugelkultur. There are logs, tree trimmings, and compost available at that garden to make it work. digitS' Super Green Thumb Posts: 3985 Joined: Sun Sep 26, 2010 5:10 pm Location: ID/WA! border Tue Jan 15, 2013 6:27 am

when will I get fruit? - helpfulgardener.com
In fact we expect that an orchard will recover its planting and growing cost by year five or six, and a fifteen year replant system would be acceptable by the best growers of Apple. ( stone fruit would be much longer lived of course)

Companion planting - helpfulgardener.com
Roots of potatoes, hairy vetch, and corn retarded the growth of tobacco even when their aboveground parts were removed from the field in harvesting. (41) Although they're talking about Succession Planting, it would stand to reason that similar effects would be present when Companion Planted close enough for the plant roots to share proximity.

Starting seed planting - HelpfulGardener.com
Starting seed plantingAt times you can. I do collect seeds from some of my home grown flowers, herbs, veggies. But it depends a little. I have never had any luck trying to start peppers from seeds from grocery store green peppers (though there are people who say they have). Green peppers are picked very green, so the seeds in them are immature. If you get ripe, red bell peppers, they will work ...

late season planting? - HelpfulGardener.com
late season planting? Are you buying your late season plants at local stores or online? I went to Calloways and Home Depot and it was slim pickins for veggie plants. When I asked the people who worked there they looked at me funny and said "It's kind of late in the season to be putting plants in."

Ground Cherries - where to plant? - HelpfulGardener.com
Sounds good guys! You probably know me well enough to know I won't only be planting them in a dedicated bed. Do you suppose they might manage in the dwarf apple tree guild as well? ... Or do you think they'll be too much in the way -- inevitable to step on them while tending the tree?
